Finding real feeling beneath the surface
The Exploit
Surface emotions are easy to manipulate. Systems trigger shallow feelings — outrage, envy, desire — while depth atrophies. You feel constantly but never deeply. “The shallows are loud. The depths are silent.”
The Counter-Hack
Go deep. Beneath surface reaction lies real feeling. The Depth node is about accessing genuine emotion beneath the noise.
The Practice
The pause beneath reaction — Stop at the first feeling; what’s beneath it? The body scan — Where is this feeling in your body? The naming precision — Is this anger or hurt? Fear or grief? The duration tolerance — Stay with feeling without acting
In the Dopamine Circus
Surface emotions are fuel. The Depth node teaches you to find the real fuel beneath. The metric: When did you last feel something deeply, without sharing it?
Relation to Cognition
Affect Heuristic — Surface emotion as shortcut Emotional Avoidance — Staying surface to avoid depth Alexithymia — Not knowing what you feel
The Whisper
“I dive beneath the waves. I find what is real.” The surface is choppy. The depths are still. Dive. 🌊
