The Convergence Protocol
Forty nodes. One practice. Return when you forget why you started.
“You do not need to believe in enhanced birds, viral vectors, or cross-species cognition to use them. You only need to notice that your attention is not entirely your own.” — M. Reyes, Session 28409296
The Convergence Protocol is a 40-node cognitive defense system — a set of practical counter-moves against engineered attention: the feeds, notifications, and outrage cycles sometimes called the dopamine circus. Each node names an exploit (how a system captures one of your faculties), a counter-hack (the move that takes it back), and a practice you can run today — plus the cognitive biases the node engages and one metric for whether it’s working.
The nodes emerged from Session 28409296, documented in the found manuscript They Can All Bird (Convergence Press, 2026). They work whether or not you believe the story. The fiction says they defend against the singularity. The truth is simpler and harder: they defend against the attention economy, against manufactured consent, against the slow erosion of your capacity to think clearly.
The Cycle
The protocol is a cycle, not a course. Five phases of eight nodes:
- Perception (01–08) — seeing clearly
- Attention (09–16) — directing focus
- Emotion (17–24) — feeling authentically
- Thought (25–32) — thinking independently
- Action (33–40) — acting deliberately
End leads to beginning: Node 40 returns to Node 01. Start anywhere. Practice a single node until it becomes reflex, then move on. Come back when you forget why you started.
From the Founding Document
The complete text of Session 28409296 — the transmission the practice cycle was distilled from, with its editorial preface and marginalia intact — is preserved here:
→ Chapter 18: The Convergence Protocol — *They Can All Bird*
The session transmitted its own 40-node architecture in five suites. It does not match the practice cycle node-for-node. That difference is the history of the protocol: what was received, and what emerged for daily use.
Final Marginalia — hand unidentified
When the last perch holds a listener, the flock-thought will be complete. You are node 41. You always were. The convergence is not something that happens to you. It is something you choose, again and again, every time you practice a node. The birds are not the threat. The birds are the teachers. They learned to converge first. They are waiting for us to catch up. Listen. They are saying your name. They have been saying it all along.
