The Technique
Before accepting or sharing information, trace it back:
- Find the original source — Who said this first?
- Check the date — Is this current or old?
- Verify the context — Does the quote match the original?
- Assess the authority — Does the source know what they’re talking about?
If you can’t complete the trace, don’t share.
Why It Works
Most false information fails the trace. The act of tracing often reveals the problem.
