The Convergence Protocol Guidebook
A comprehensive companion to 40 Days of Existential Threatsβan interactive journey through cognitive biases, system failures, and existential questions.
What is This?
The Convergence Protocol is a collection of 40 self-contained interactive experiences, each exploring a different aspect of how we think, how systems fail, and what we cannot control.
The Motel is the navigation hubβa 3D hallway containing 40 numbered doors. Each door leads to a distinct experience.
This Guidebook is your companion. It organizes the experiences thematically, provides philosophical context, collects 100 sayings that echo through the journey, and offers guidance for first-time visitors.

Five Chapters
Chapter 1: Coordination & Failures
Why do intelligent agents make collectively catastrophic decisions? Explore Moloch, the Thucydides Trap, Normal Accidents, Technical Debt, and the inevitability of system failure.
- 5 Experiences
Chapter 2: Prediction & Uncertainty
The future is uncertain, and we are terrible at imagining it. Black Swans, Planning Fallacies, the Great Filter, Pessimism Induction, and why our models fail.
- 8 Experiences
Chapter 3: Knowledge & Information
Some knowledge is dangerous to possess. Some is impossible to unlearn. Information Hazards, the Curse of Knowledge, Gell-Mann Amnesia, and the burden of expertise.
- 6 Experiences
Chapter 4: Bias & Cognition
Your mind is a pattern-matching machine prone to systematic error. Confirmation Bias, Loss Aversion, the Halo Effect, Supernormal Stimuli, and 13 other cognitive traps.
- 17 Experiences
Chapter 5: Systems & Futures
How systems evolve, lock us in, and move away from us. Path Dependence, Lock-In Effects, Value Drift, the Matthew Effect, and Network Effects.

100 Profound Sayings
Interactive reference to all sayings organized by theme. Searchable, filterable, organized by category.
Concept Map
A visual guide showing how ideas connect across the 40 experiences.
Glossary
Definitions and deep-dives into key concepts (Moloch, coordination failure, existential risk, etc.)
Design System
Visual specifications used across all 40 experiences. For designers and developers.
Important Things to Know
No Objectives
There are no points, no winning, no solutions. The Motel is a space for encountering uncomfortable truths.
Non-Linear
Visit rooms in any order. Skip ones youβre not interested in. Revisit favorites. The choice is yours.
Self-Contained
Each experience stands alone. You donβt need to finish one to start another.
Persistent Progress
Your progress is saved automatically. The Motel remembers which rooms youβve visited.
Private
All progress is saved locally in your browser. No tracking. No servers. No data collection.
Duration
- Per Room: 5-15 minutes (varies by experience)
- Full Journey: 10-20 hours (all 40 rooms)
- Flexible: Do as much or as little as you want, whenever you want

Philosophy
The Convergence Protocol operates under these principles:
- Darkness as Canvas: Deep backgrounds allow the content to emerge with purpose
- Light as Narrative: Every glow and pulse carries meaning
- Restraint Creates Impact: Limited palette, strategic accent usage
- Motion as Emotion: Animations communicate state and guide focus
- Cohesion Across Diversity: 40 distinct experiences, one continuous journey
Visual Design
All experiences share:
- Dark theme (near-black backgrounds)
- Bioluminescent accents (cyan, teal, purple, blue)
- Monospace typography (Courier New)
- Glassmorphism and glowing effects
- Consistent interaction patterns
See Design System for complete specifications.
Audio System (Planned)
The audio layer is planned but not yet implemented:
- ElevenLabs API for generation
- Spatial Web Audio mixing
- Categories: door sounds, ambient loops, narration, UI feedback
- Adds atmosphere without being intrusive
Future Features
- Analytics (completion rates, user paths, engagement)
- Social features (sharing experiences, collaborative journeys)
- Branching hallway (left/right splits at entrance)
- Terminal UI (pydo-style interface)
- Mobile app version
